I am an author and freelance journalist with a particular passion for the history of fashion and beauty. Great events are fascinating for how they have shaped the path of history, but I prefer to take the intimate view from a closet or a dressing table to explore the feminine perspective of those events and the impact they had on individual lives.

 

Sarah Jane Downing  has written widely about the arts, contributing to national and local magazines and newspapers as well as four books for Shire, The English Pleasure Garden 1660-1860, Fashion in the Time of Jane Austen, Beauty and Cosmetics 1550-1950, and Fashion in the Time of William Shakespeare.
